September Sprint

September was an absolute sprint, packed with intense research, crucial filming, and a few definitive answers (both good and... well, definitive).

It really felt like we were putting some serious mileage on our narrative!

We started the month immediately building connections, reaching out to new contacts and chasing down some familiar ones. Sometimes you get a green light, and sometimes... well, sometimes a major shoe brand sends a very polite, very firm "no, thank you." It's all part of the documentary adventure – sometimes the silence speaks volumes!

Much of September was a deep dive into the fascinating history of footwear with Marquita Volken and the biomechanics of walking with Georgette Dutoit. I collaborated with these incredible minds to understand how our ancestors walked, how shoes evolved, and what that means for our feet today.

This involved some fantastic filming in Zurich and Lausanne, interviewing these truly insightful experts who are helping us piece together this centuries-old puzzle.

Beyond the filming, I kept busy connecting the dots in other ways:

  • I had a fascinating (and head-scratching!) chat about mental health perspectives within major health organizations. Let's just say, the idea that a simple mechanical issue could be so easily dismissed... well, it drives a documentarian slightly nuts!

  • I filmed some footage for our segment focused on "people who work standing all day" thanks to some awesome local businesses who came on board.

  • I started getting my hands dirty with the edit! I’ve officially started cutting footage, weaving the story together and learning to use Davinci Resolve’s fusion for the historical animations (thank God for YouTube creators JayAreTV and Casey Faris)

Over the last few months I’ve have many discussions about the documentary and everyone wants to know where to get help, so I spent time building a crucial resource page for our website. This page will be a go-to for anyone looking for practical, foot-friendly solutions—a direct answer to the "what can I do about it tomorrow?" question.

September was a big month, clearing some paths, closing others, and most importantly, laying strong foundations for the story to come.

This film is building momentum, and I’m excited for you to see what emerges next.
